Choosing a Blog Name: How I Made My Decision

Choosing A Blog Name

Choosing a blog name isn’t easy – trust me! Here’s how I decided on Reinventing Erin

This blog would have started earlier in the summer if choosing a blog name didn’t take me so long. I take names very seriously. I love being an Erin, and my full name flows very well. So of course I’d want my blog name to “fit” as well.

I didn’t really put a lot of thought into my old blog names. Because of that –and because I wanted to create a blog I could grow with – I wanted to make sure I was comfortable and content with this new name. I wanted it to be something that would represent me over time. So, after much deliberation… welcome to Reinventing Erin!

There were a few other names that I liked a lot, but something was just a little “off” with each of them. I’m not going to go over every possible site name on my list, but I will give you a few examples.

  • becomingerin (dot) com: It’s a cute name, but I didn’t like how it implied that I was “becoming” myself, as in one day I would finally “be” erin. Does that sound silly? Everyone changes at all phases of their life. I’m under no impression that one day I will “BE” Erin. I am Erin. Just an ever-changing Erin.
  • happyerin (dot) com: Here’s the thing: I’m not happy all of the time. While that may sound unbelievable to some, it’s true. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? I’m proud that I have a sunny disposition, and I’m a grateful person, but I’m human. Sometimes I get sad or angry, and there is nothing wrong with that.
  • erinknowsbest (dot) com: There’s actually nothing wrong with this title. Just kidding. I hate to admit it, but I am wrong some times. And I make a lot of a couple of mistakes. What happens when I make a mistake, or I’m incorrect? I admit to it, and I try as hard as I can to learn from the experience. You’ll learn that about me (if you don’t know this already).

Are you how I decided to go with Reinventing Erin when I was choosing a blog name?

I’ve already hinted at the reason. Life changes all the time, and I want a blog that was will grow with me. After a floating around on the internet, I wanted to “settle down,” but I want to make sure whatever name I choose will be versatile at any point.

Right now I’m a 20-something single female. I’d like, at some point, to get married, finish graduate school, have children, become a professor, write books, and do many more thing with my life. Since this is a lifestyle blog, the content will reflect what’s currently happening at any given time. So how does that affect my choosing a blog name? Well, it’s easy. It means I can’t title it “Single-20-Something-Grad-Student.com.”

Here’s the truth – I’m forever going to be changing, and I’m okay with that. We need to recreate ourselves every once in a while, and that is my plan. Reinvention.

So became ReinventingErin.com, and with the creation of this blog I am comfortable, and I am content.
