Four days ago I woke up as a student. I went to classes and conversed with my professors and other students.
Three days ago I woke up as a master- a girl with a MFA, a girl who still needed to go to class in a half hour.
Two days ago I woke up as a master- a girl with three loads of laundry to do, lucky to have no school or work so that she could do her laundry.
Yesterday I woke up as a master- a girl with a job she hasn’t been at for a week or so, a girl with work piled all over her desk.
Is this what happens when a person graduates from a graduate program? Everything and nothing change at the same time?
So so true. The weirdest part is when classes get going again and you have the realization that you are done and no longer a student!

I know! I’m not excited about that! I HATED it when I graduated with my BA, but I thnk it will be even harder now with my MFA since I’m so close with all the students/teachers. Sigh. Thank goodness for alumni days!

Isn’t it strange how that’s how most big, massive, life changing events turn out to be? You have all this build-up in your mind, and then it turns out you just keep waking up every morning, living your life

YES! And thank you. I have the feeling that it is kind of the same thing with a wedding. So much effort and anticipation are put into the big day, and then you wake up the next mornign MARRIED, yet you are the same two people as you were before! Wild.
It’s so true — several years, hundreds of hours of work, thousands of dollars and countless moments of stress/fun/love/laughter/tears and the ultimate walk across the stage and then, it is the day after! But, you’ve accomplished so much and nothing will ever change that! You will write powerful words. Again, congratulations.
Thank you, Donna. It’s so nice to read this from someone who has been in my shoes. It was a wonderful experience, and like life, I guess the “climactic” moments aren’t the important ones. The experiences leading up to big moments are the important ones.
